Cooling tower plume abatement and plume modeling: a review

Abstract Visible plumes above wet cooling towers are of great concern due to the associated aesthetic and environmental impacts. The parallel path wet/dry tower is one most commonly used approaches for plume abatement, however, capital cost usually high addition dry coils. Recently, passive technologies, which make use free solar energy or latent heat hot, moist air rising through fill, have been proposed minimize abate visible and/or conserve water. In this review, we contrast established versus novel technologies give a perspective on relative merits demerits each. Of course, no assessment severity can be made without first understanding its atmospheric trajectory. To end, numerous attempts, being either theoretical numerical experimental, predict behavior in atmospheres that uniform density-stratified still windy (whether highly-turbulent not). Problems particular interests rise/deflection, condensation drift deposition, latter consideration public health possible transport spread Legionella bacteria.
